The Cat Of Gotham

A character created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, Catwoman (also known as Selina Kyle) made her debut in Batman #1 (1940), in which she was presented as a villain. In DC Comics, Selina skulks the streets of Gotham City and adopts the appearance of a feline, sporting a cat-eared outfit with goggles. Her main motivation is the pursuit of wealth, and the resulting criminal activities frequently cause her to exchange blows with the city’s resident vigilante, Batman (Bruce Wayne). However, the Caped Crusader’s relationship with the cat burglar is far more complex than that, the pair sharing an intimate connection.

Throughout the character’s history, she has leapt off the pages of comic books and appeared in many different adaptations (both animated and live action). In 2014, a younger version of Selina (played by Camren Bicondova) joined Gotham, a TV series set before Bruce Wayne became the World's Greatest Detective. Prior to this, multiple actors had stepped into her shoes on the big screen: Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns (1992), Halle Berry in Catwoman (2004), and Anne Hathway in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) — amongst others. They were succeeded by Zoë Kravitz, who starred opposite Robert Pattinson in The Batman (2022), a film by director Matt Reeves.
