The Book Of The Dead

Directed by Sam Raimi, the first installment in the Evil Dead franchise was released in 1981. The plot centres around a group of five friends who visit a cabin in the woods of Tennessee for a vacation: Ashley “Ash” Williams (Bruce Campbell), Linda (Betsy Baker), Cheryl Williams (Ellen Sandweiss), Scott (Richard DeManincor), and Shelly (Theresa Tilly). While staying there, they discover an ancient Sumerian book known as the Naturom Demonto and a tape recorder that belonged to an archaeologist. The tape contains a recording of an incantation designed to resurrect a demon, which they promptly turn off. Unfortunately, they are too late, and the entity starts terrorizing the unprepared college students.

After the successful release of the first film, which received a hugely positive review from author Stephen King, multiple sequels were created. Most of these feature Ash Williams in the lead role, such as Evil Dead II (1987) and Army Of Darkness (1992), but a 2013 reboot shined the spotlight on a new protagonist, Mia Allen (Jane Levy). Alongside four others — David Allen (Shiloh Fernandez), Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore), Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci), and Olivia (Jessica Lucas) — she finds herself faced with a demonic force, which they unleash by reading an incantation from the Naturom Demonto. Mia is quickly possessed, and her friends must either save her or destroy her.
