This popular team has appeared in various forms of media (comics, films, video games, and more), and we have tons of products based on the many different iterations: DVDs and Blu-rays, statues and figures, clothing, and homeware — among others.

The Marvel Cosmic Universe

The Guardians Of The Galaxy made their first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (1969). Created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Gene Colan, the original team comprised Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, Yondu Udonta, Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki.

In 2008, the comic series was reimagined by writer Dan Abnett and artist Andy Lanning, who introduced modern readers to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax The Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Phyla-Vell, and Adam Warlock. This line-up influenced the creation of Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014), a film that brought the heroes to live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Directed by James Gunn, the first instalment in the Guardians Of The Galaxy film franchise focused on the origins of the team — Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax The Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel) — and pitted them against a Kree fanatic called Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace).

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was released in 2017, picking up shortly after the first film. The story follows the newly formed Guardians as they meet Ego (Kurt Russell), Peter’s long-lost father and a member of the powerful Celestials.
