The group known as the Pythons — composed of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin — made their first appearance in the BBC television series Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which aired from 1969 to 1974. After a total of four seasons and 45 episodes, the comedy troupe were firmly established icons, a status that bolstered their career in entertainment. They used this newfound success and their creative talent to expand their portfolio to films, books, musicals, albums, stage shows, and other forms of media. Some of their biggest movies include Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975), Life Of Brian (1979), and The Meaning Of Life (1983).

Over time, their influence has reached American audiences, bringing absurdist humor to the mainstream in shows such as Saturday Night Live. This was accomplished through the release of And Now For Something Completely Different (1972), a 90-minute film that assembles sketches from the first two series of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. These sketches include classics like “The Lumberjack Song”, “Dead Parrot”, “Upper Class Twit Of The Year”, “Nudge Nudge”, and “Hell’s Grannies”.

In recognition of their achievements, the Pythons have received numerous awards from respected organizations, two of which are the British Academy Of Film and the American Film Institute. Individually, the group’s members have also established themselves as distinguished figures in the world of English-speaking comedy.
