A Classic Fighting Game

Conceived by Takashi Nishiyama, Street Fighter originated as a series of video games masterminded by the video-game developer Capcom. The first installment in the franchise, a competitive arcade game, was released in 1987. Introducing many of the elements that are frequently incorporated into modern fighter games, it became immensely popular among players.

Throughout the franchise's history, there have been a number of sequels and spin-offs, each of which has introduced new fighters to the game’s growing roster: Ryu, M. Bison, Chun-Li, Akuma, Guile, Sagat, Cammy, Zangief, Dhalsim, Ken Masters, Blanka, Ibuki, E. Honda, Balrog, and Juri — among many others.

In 1994, a live-action film adaptation by director Steven E. de Souza made its cinematic debut. Focusing on the established character Colonel Guile (played by actor Jean-Claude Van Damme), the plot drew inspiration from the second entry in the video-game series, The World Warrior (1991). Guile enlists the help of various fan-favorite fighters, such as Ryu (Byron Mann) and Ken (Damian Chapa), hoping to sabotage the plans of General M. Bison (Raul Julia), who intends to use super soldiers to dominate the world.

A reboot attempted to provide a better adaptation in 2009: The Legend Of Chun-Li. Unlike its predecessor, this movie explores the origins of the eponymous character (Kristin Kreuk). However, Bison (Neal McDonough) returns as the principal antagonist, his focus locked on the slums of Bangkok. To put an end to the chaos, Chun-Li joins alongside a group of like-minded heroes: Gen (Robin Shou), Charlie Nash (Chris Klein), and Maya Sunee (Moon Bloodgood).
