Created by author A.A. Milne and illustrator E.H. Shephard, Winnie-The-Pooh is a children’s franchise that focuses on its eponymous character, a yellow bear who sports a red T-shirt, and his group of friends: Piglet, a piglet; Tigger, a tiger; Rabbit, a rabbit; Eeyore, a donkey; Kanga, a mother kangaroo; Roo, a baby kangaroo; Owl, an owl; and Christopher Robin, a human child. These characters were first seen in a poem called “Teddy Bear”, which was released in 1924. However, the name “Winnie-The-Pooh” didn’t appear until 1925, being mentioned in the London newspaper Evening News.

The Walt Disney Company acquired the rights to the franchise in 1961, and they subsequently released Winnie The Pooh And The Honey Tree (1966), a short film by director Wolfgang Reitherman that established the franchise as a household name. In addition to this short, there have been a myriad of animated feature-length projects, such as The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh (1977), The Tigger Movie (2000), Piglet’s Big Movie (2003), Pooh’s Heffalump Movie (2005), and Winnie The Pooh (2011).

In 2018, a live-action movie titled Christopher Robin made its debut in theaters. Starring actor Ewan McGregor, the film centers on an older Christopher Robin, who is reunited with his childhood friends: Pooh (Jim Cummings), Tigger (Cummings), Eeyore (Brad Garrett), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Rabbit (Peter Capaldi), Kanga (Sophie Okonedo), Roo (Sara Sheen), and Owl (Toby Jones). Together, the stuffed animals attempt to restore their friend’s imagination, which was lost after the death of his father and his transition to boarding school.
